Rejection. We’ve all experienced it in some way. It can really hurt. We might still remember that time we were dumped by a middle school boyfriend or girlfriend because of the strong negative feelings it stirred in us. You might still recall that sting as you opened the email from the university or job and read the words “We regret to inform you…” 

Given the choice, we’d rather succeed. We prefer to be liked and accepted. But for some people the aversion to rejection is so strong it causes them to experience a pit-in-your-stomach pain, that prevents them from moving forward in a productive way.
