Is your relationship history filled with casual, short-term relationships?  Does talking about the “long-term” make you uncomfortable? Do you find yourself looking for reasons to end a relationship?

Maybe you’ve been told you have commitment issues or you’re speculating yourself. So what does it mean to have commitment issues?

Commitment is an agreement or pledge to do something.

You could have trouble committing to anything, such as work or school. In a romantic relationship commitment issues are when a person has a hard time dedicating themself to a long-term goal in the relationship or to the relationship in general. Commitment issues tend to show up when the relationship is moving to the “next stage”, like when the couple starts talking about being exclusive or moving in together. At that point, the person will back away or look for problems in the relationship to justify leaving.
