Salonia Singh Husson, LMFT | West LA Couples Therapist

Relationships are an inescapably important aspect of life, and we don’t always learn how to do them right. I quickly realized through my own experiences in relationships’, that there are very few avenues for learning the skills needed to be in healthy and satisfying relationships. This inspired me to dedicate myself to understanding, through training, research and clinical experience, what actually helps us to do relationships well? I quickly learned through working with numerous couples, that once we are given the tools for relating that are necessary for a well functioning and satisfying relationship, we can experience the transformational and healing power that they have.

Couples therapy can be the catalyst for relational healing and transformation. It can assist you in unlearning the communication strategies and behaviors that are causing conflict and dissatisfaction, while simultaneously learning the scientifically backed strategies that are necessary for relating in a healthy manner. The ultimate goal being that you get the most positive outcomes out of your relationship experience.

My goal is to help provide you with the tools to live your best life. I see my client’s relationship experience holistically and through a trauma informed and cultural sensitive lens. My approach is direct, sincere, and optimistically invested. I specialize in working with the following couple’s: pre marital, intercultural, new parents, trust issues/infidelity, divorce mediation, parenting, and intimacy/sexual concerns. I aim to connect you more deeply with yourself, your partner, and your relationship habits. I am excited to do the work with you!

Background

I became interested in the general field of mental health at an early age. As an Indian-American woman I was faced with the difficult understanding that there is great suffering happening in communities who do not have access to mental health resources and education. I quickly realized the importance of not only accessing these resources but being a part of educating myself and then later educating my community. I quickly understood that there are ways to lift yourself out of suffering and into a more joyful life, and I wanted to share that with anybody I possibly could. This dedication to advocate for mental health and well being inspired me to become a therapist, and it is still one of the best decisions I have ever made. Being a therapist in the modern world I wanted to reduce any stigma and shame around accessing mental health resources. Therefore, I have developed my own sense of style as a relationship therapist that aims to provide an easy and natural space for growth and learning, rather than an intimidating one

Training and Education

I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and I hold a master’s degree in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in marriage and family therapy from Pepperdine university. I trained at The Maple Center which guides my approach of insight oriented, psychodynamic therapy. I have also trained in the Gottman method of couples therapy, which provides a basis for the way I approach my work with couples, using scientifically backed insights and research.
