Nadezhda “Nadya” Peeva, AMFT

In my work with couples, I often start by helping demystify the stuckness couples experience when they get caught in recurring negative communication cycles. We explore what is really happening between partners on a deeper level and why. We then look at how we can support more options, more choice, and being able to move toward different and better outcomes.

I work with each partner in a couple to assist them in defining and communicating their individual feelings, thoughts, and desires. I support partners in finding their way through the fraught terrain of navigating differences without losing intimacy and connection. And I help couples strengthen the bond and trust in the relationship without feeling they have to give up their individuality.

I work with couples who are seeking help with communication difficulties and who find themselves having the same arguments over and over again with no resolution in sight. I also support couples seeking to navigate significant life transitions or who are grappling with the complexity of making important life decisions.

I approach the process of therapy with the deepest respect for the inherent wholeness and dignity of every individual I have the privilege to work with. While my therapeutic style is warm, relational, and collaborative, you can expect me to lead and coach you through difficult interactions, challenge you to stop repeating negative cycles, and encourage each partner to commit to their stated goals in service of the relationship.

Background

Before choosing to pursue training as a therapist, I worked in the corporate world in various capacities. What lit me up and gave me a sense of purpose during that time, however, were the creative and community-based projects I was involved with in my free time. I was strongly motivated to try to make a positive difference in the world and for a time was very focused on what I could do out there. I gradually came to recognize that in turning toward the exiled and ‘inconvenient’ parts of myself with kindness, understanding, patience and compassion, I was more able to bring those same qualities to my relationships, my community, and my work in the world. I became excited about the liberation of potential and aliveness possible through deeper intimacy with oneself and others. This gave me the impetus to fully commit to my calling and pursue formal training as a therapist.

I work with couples and with adults of all gender identities and sexual orientations. My clinical experience includes working at Grateful Heart Holistic Therapy Center and the Center for Somatic Psychotherapy. My areas of expertise include anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues, life transitions, navigating cross-cultural identities.

Training and Education

I am an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist and hold a master’s degree in Counseling Psychology with a concentration in Somatic Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies; a master’s degree in Applied Positive Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania; and an MBA from Northeastern University.

Listed below are some of the therapeutic modalities I have completed training in:

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) – Level 3-trained
  • Intimacy from the Inside Out (IFS for couples therapy) – Basic Training curriculum
  • Love Made Simple through The Couples Center
  • Developmental Model of Couples Therapy
  • Somatic Experiencing

In my free time

I have deep appreciation for all forms of creative expression but music and literature is where I really come alive. I play some guitar, sing, and feel most at home when in the presence of metaphor, poetry, and story.
