Eileen Van Tyne, LMFT

You may be feeling disconnected, frustrated, or in a rut in your relationship, and fear that you can’t pull yourselves out of it. Our relationships can be our greatest joy, safest sanctuary, home and support. So it makes sense that threats to this security can feel devastating. The good news is that supporting your relationship with couples therapy can deepen your connection together, open you to new understanding, and heal patterns that no longer serve you.

I believe that our relationships are places where our disconnected, hurt and worried parts may show themselves. By slowing down, and working mindfully together, acknowledging these wounds can lead to beautiful healings and improved understanding that never happened in the past.

In my work with couples, I have helped them heal from infidelity, discover new responses to old feelings, develop understanding of neurodivergent patterns in partners, unwind conflict patterns to find deeper understanding, and to build better communication.

Background

Therapy, including couples therapy, has been a crucial rest stop, storm watch and launching point for me at different times in my life. Once I discovered the depths and perspective available from combining talk therapy with art and movement, I decided to change careers from adult learning designer to therapist. As a therapist, I have sought out additional training to help clients heal trauma following the body’s wisdom — Polyvagal-Focused and Sensorimotor Expressive Arts Therapy, Brainspotting, and PACT (Psychobiological Approach to Couples Therapy). I also bring my lived experiences working in corporate and tech in the Bay Area, as a step-parent, and partner. Being a therapist is an honor. I love guiding couples towards figuring stuff out and watching them transform their lives.

Training and Education

I earned a BA in English at the University of Washington. I received a Masters in Counseling from CIIS in San Francisco, with an emphasis on Expressive Arts. I hold a license in MFT for the state of California, and am a member of California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists. I have training in PACT (Psychobiological Approach to Couples Therapy), Brainspotting, Applied Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Mindfulness for Couples.

In My Free Time

I love learning from my garden, hiking near redwood trees, baking gluten-free desserts, wrangling our two small dogs, and trying to learn Bay Area hip hop dances with my partner in the privacy of our own home.
