Meihong Xu, AMFT

If you are struggling in your relationship, you might find it quite difficult to hold space for each other. You might run into challenges while trying to communicate and work through things among yourselves at home. You might either keep your mouth shut or have frequent fights. Further, you might get triggered easily and feel stuck in a painful cycle of negativity. You end up dancing around the big questions. Why are we so angry, resentful, lonely, sad, and unhappy in this relationship? Are we even compatible? Do we honestly want to be together?

If you are in a loving relationship, you might be interested in having premarital discussions regarding children, finances, intimacy, lifestyles, expectations of marriage, growth and happiness, conflict resolution, extended families, faith, religion, and spiritual practices.

As a couples therapist, it’s my passion and calling to devote my life in offering a safe, compassionate, and loving container for you, my clients, to find your voice, understand you wants and needs, see your partner’s perspectives, discover the root of pain and suffering, identify the repeated patterns that lead to disagreement and disappointment, recognize the constructs that get us stuck, receive new perspectives to approach relationship’s challenges, and gain insights into our fullest potential. That way, you can start to embark on a healing journey towards a relationship of connection, authenticity, empowerment, compassion, mutual support, joy, love and vibrancy.

Background

As every snowflake is different, each couple is special. I use my intuition and sensitivity to adapt my approach to your unique dynamics. My theoretical orientation includes but is not limited to Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT), Gottman Method, Intimacy from the Inside Out (IFIO), gestalt therapy, transpersonal psychology, relational psychoanalysis, attachment theory, trauma informed, strength based, and resilience focused approach. Psychedelic integration, social justice, racial equity, diversity, inclusivity, mindfulness, and cultural competence and humility are all important parts of my practice.

Training and Education

I come from a multicultural and bilingual (English and Chinese) background. I have a Master of Arts (MA) in Integral Counseling Psychology and a Master of Business Administration (MBA). I have also completed the Somatic Couples Therapy training program with the Couples Center.
